October for Killer Riff Records

October

In the first week of October all the people who wanted to be CEO were called out of class for an interview held by our transition year co ordinater. We all spoke on why we should be the CEO and what we would bring to the MMC. We were all a bit nervous and it was good to learn how to cope in a situation like that where you need to show what you could bring and why you should be picked over everyone else.

At the end of the next week into October I was informed that I would be CEO of our MMC and that Keith Duffy would be my assistant CEO. I was handed the book with the programme for the module and all the application forms. I was told we were behind and to interview everyone as soon as possible. So I got straight to work.

We went around to all the classes telling each person what time their interview was. We asked them why we should pick them over someone else and some of the ideas they had for the MMC. We asked them if they had time away from school to do this and explained to them that it would be a lot of hard work. At the end of each interview we asked each person if they had any ideas of a name for the MMC. Most people came up with something but the name that stuck was 'Killer Riff Records'.

We held our first meeting in the hall the next day. I explained everyones jobs and their aim for the end of October. I explained we were a bit behind so we would have to work hard to catch up. Everyone was willing to work. I got in contact with blastbeat and registered our company name 'Killer Riff Records' and got an email killerriffrecords@blastbeat.org. We are officially a company!

We decided as well as completeing the tasks for this month we would get straight to business and hold our first gig. We decided upon a charity gig. All the profit was going to the MyLife charity in Cape Town. Doing this every staff position could get a good taste of what their job intails in a smaller scale and the difficuties that could occur before the battle of the bands competition. Each of their blogs shows their individual experiences of this month and the different aspects thats involved in being a part of an MMC.
