The Story So Far

One Winters day, 2003, three young boys huddled at the back if a classroom, all of whom had an interest in music and were looking for something to do during the cold afternoons of December. These boys were Colin Ratcliffe, Hugh McFadden and Derek McCloskey.The decided to start a band. Over the next few months they found a name, a place to practice, a line-up (Colin-Guitar, Hugh-Bass, Derek-Drums) and financial backing in the great Faustina Melly(Hugh's Mammy). A P.A. system was acquired and the band continued. Various drummers such as Colm O'Shea and Cory Broderick came and went but with Cory came a young unknown guitarist named Dylan Boyle. Armed with his Telecaster, Dylan brought new life to the band.

Yet after many days with no progress, Colin, Decided to leave. Soon he formed Silverscreen Objection with drummer Matthew Gallagher, bassist/vocalist Keelin Gallagher and second guitarist Ryan Hegarty.Meanwhile, Lost Purpose was formed as Hugh, Dylan and Derek reformed with a new member, Eoin O'Shaugnessy as second guitarist/vocals.. Eventually these bands also fell apart and a new band One Page Novel consisting of Colin Ratcliffe, Dylan Boyle, Eoin O'Shaugnessy, Ryan Hegarty and another newcomer, Maebhdh McGuinness on drums. This, like all the bands before it, also fell apart and from it, The Rails were born.! It came about when Dylan had suggested to Hugh that they were due a jam. And from that they began to think of a new band. With the line-up that first kicked things off, Derek and Colin signed up, Playing together for the first time in 3 and a half years as it was now mid 2006. With a few brief stretches of different vocalists such as Efa Doogan the band decided on Ryan Hegarty who had accompanied Colin and Dylan before.

The band rapidly began learnin and writing songs untill it was decided that Derek was holding the band back in not turning up for practice and not contributing enough in matters such as songwriting. So a search for a new drummer commenced. The band decided on Ryan"Guiny" McGuinness, a friend of the band.
