"A FULL HOUSE PHELANS PLUS OTHER STRANGE TALES"
4 months agorap with me for a while brother,
to anyone who contributed to our capacity crowd whelans single launch for bite the bullet on friday we wanna extend a massive cyber high five and scream "big up yourselves" at the top of our lungs!!! we really did not expect it and it warmed the cockles of our hearts ......it starts here!!
fri 29/02/08
-tower records instore 1pm-
we arrrived to load in @ tower around 11ish, i had a few peeps comin in from college to help out with backline/sound etc over the weekend and they arrived promptly after we did. after a brief discussion as to the best way of settin up the tiny stage, (we had of course brought full backline with us cos we're terrible at acoustic sets!) we began to position amps and bodies, it was like a game of twister except every time i grazed off sean's boob i didn't get that excited tummy rush that normally accompanies such sexy encounters in a normal game of twister...
we ran thru our unobtrusive soundcheck song (it involves me singin "1,2,1,2" whilst the boys back me up with a strokes-esque chug in D.
the place had filled up at this stage so we wasted no time and began...the set was

-whelans soundcheck 2.30pm-
as soon as the last chord had been strummed at the instore henno had the kinetomobile outside the shop entrance to transport the gear (we had to walk :( ) to whelans for the soundcheck
me and sean walked up together then sean, the wily old bastard, suggested we stop at simons coffee shop to a) get some delicious soup and b) miss the load in...GENIUS!
by the time we arrived in to the venue most of the gear had been loaded up onto the stage. we made our excuses to the lads whilst wiping the tell tale soup splashes from our jackets...they never copped it! (muhahahahahaha)
after the gear was setup on stage we got down to the extremely important business of decorating every available surface with fairy lights, it was like christmas week in the kinetiks HQ all over again!
we ran thru pretty much the entire set during soundcheck then retired to the dressin room to get nervous bout the gig while henno sped off into the evening to try and locate more lights and a smoke machine...
- whelans single launch 10pm-
many things happened at once, 1hr before we went on jim ran into the dressin room to tell us their was a large queue outside the entrance, 20 mins before we were due to go on henno came into tell us they had stopped lettin people in and that the venue was sold out, 5 mins before we were due to go on jim ran into the jax and got sick, 1 minute before we were due to go on the house lights went down and our intro music "the hives are law, you are crime" by the hives reverberated around the venue......
we went on and IT ...........WAS............INCREDIBL E, u guys were immense, the sound was immense the whole thing was just, perfect, for our encore our mate simon came on and wailed out on saxamaphone the outro for a smile'd crack your face,

the whole thing just couldn't have gone better. we buzzed around the venue for the rest of the nite talkin to heads and grinnin from ear to ear.....then bout 2ish i went to eddie rockets and had mine own private little celebration if u catch my drift ;)
sat 01/03/08
- whelans (all ages) souncheck 12am -
lets just say after the nite we had just had, heads were delicate, smiles were weary and legs were tired, thankfully they had let us leave our gear all set up onstage so their was no carrying off anything required. always a good thing in this game
we soundchecked for bout 20 mins then retired to the nearest greasy spoon for full irish's and coffee aplenty
-whelans (all ages) single launch 4pm-
after rockin out in the dressin room for an hour listenin to the strokes and the jesus and mary chain we took to the stage while the sun was still shinin outside, a fair few dudes had come in and it was a real enjoyable set, it was our 1st all ages gig aswell so we didnt quite know what to expect but the crowd was lovely and even though their wasn't a a crazy amount of people the atmosphere and response was brillinat

after the set we hung round takin a few pics and signin posters and what not and then it was another load out and we hit the road for ham sandwich, the spirit store and dundalk!
-spirit store, dundalk as support to ham sandwich 8pm-
we arrived in the spirit store which is this real quirky deadly little venue in dundalk, right down by the port at 7ish, our soundcheck only lasted bout 10 mins cos everyone was runnin late but dererk the sound engineer knows his shit so we weren't too worried.
before goin on we hung out in the dressing room with ham sandwich and the flaws (who had come down to see the sandwich) and exchanged stories and what not mainly to do with poo for some reason and also about bands we hated which is always fun.
we hit the stage at about 10 bells and the place was rammed, a sell out. we were well up for it and played our 2nd best gig of the weekend, we stayed after to catch the sandwich's set (brilliant) and then jumped in the wagon and pointed her homewards, we stopped in deli burger in balbriggan on the way home and i ate chicken and chips till i was pretty close to throwin up..

FUNDRAISER FOR
OUR LADY'S HOSPITAL FOR SICK CHILDREN CRUMLIN
TO MAKE IT A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS FOR CHILDREN
WHO CAN'T GET HOME FOR SANTA
Each year there are many children too ill or in need of constant medical attention unable to go home to celebrate Christmas with their families. The hospital staff make it as festive as possible and we would like to help by raising funds to make sure that each and every child in Crumlin Hospital over Christmas receives a special present.
Sophie's choice is the idea of Simon Andreuccetti who knows at first hand what it is like to have a seriously ill child – his daughter, Sophie, was diagnosed with a life threatening condition Hypopituitarism when she was three days old. (His story is below)
With the help of friends Simon has organised a gig at the Button Factory (previously Temple Bar Music Centre) on November 18 th with all proceeds going towards the cause.
"As I'm sure you know, there are children that live in hospital from one year to the next, gazing out the window, wondering when will they get to go home, to play with their toys. With the funds I raise, I fully intend to give these children a moment of happiness by providing them each with their own special toy."
