SINGLE RELEASE/MERCH STORE LAUNCHED/NEW DATES/NEW
1 month agosup HOMIES?!
p0d here. It's been a while since we've had an update BLOG-wise. Since we've rendezvoused last cyberly as a band we've been up to quite a bit. We had a tour around Ireland which you can check out the highlights of at our YouTube channel [which got voted 'Website Of The Week' on Radio 1!!] and we've been sorting out LOADS for the summer. 'Cos the summer is what it's all about. Exams have riddled proceedings so we've been able to chill out for a while. But once summer arrives ... 2008 is going to become 2 thousand and GREAT!!!
[SILENCE]
We're getting ready for the release of 'Comebacks Aren't Your Thing'. The video has been knocking about YouTube for a good while and has rounded up nearly 30,000 plays in a few months which is cool beans! There's also some other versions of it on other people's channels so all in all, thanks for checking it out and watching it and making it your flashboxes etc etc etc.
The launch date for the single digitally and physically [on the internet and in shops] will be JUNE 30th. Put it in your calenders/set your alarms/write it on your little sister's forehead. I dunno! BUT REMEMBER IT! Would be amazing if some of you guys could make it out and pick up a copy and make 10,000,000,000 of your friends do the same. That way we'd be number 1 in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD charts. Then Vinny would become King.
Tracklisting for the 'Comebacks Aren't Your Thing' single is as follows:
1. Comebacks Aren't Your Thing [Radio Edit]
2. Comebacks Aren't Your Thing [Acoustic]
3. getALIVE! [PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED TRACK]
We've also just launched our new MERCH STORE. So check it out, brand new tee designs up and you'll also be able to grab a copy of the album too :)
As we said summer = tour/tour/tour ... as much as we can anyways and we'll always be keeping ourselves busy so keep an eye on our calender and up-coming shows to check out if we're playing near you any time soon. If we are ... it would be really amazing if you could help us out by telling your friends and spreading the word as much as possible. Then we'll all get to hang out! MAKES SENSE!
Also ... brand new track up called 'getALIVE!' ... the MySpace player doesn't let us have an exclamation mark at the end of a song name. BOO!
Check it out and let us know what you think!
Peace outttt,
-p0d

4 months agoHEYYYY!!!
It's been a while since we posted a blog so here goes. Things have been really cool recently we had an amazing show in the Tripod in Dublin as a guest band at the Blast:beat World Finals, thanks to everyone for coming out and making that a really cool day and for hanging out afterwards to talk to us. Also some of you might have heard our song 'Reactions (Speak Louder Than Words)' being used for the music in the new Blast:beat advert, which is pretty cool beans.
Anyways, just a lil update to tell you guys about a loada stuff one of which is the tour we're doing with our buddies The Story So Far from Cardiff, Wales. They're coming over here to do 4 dates and then we're heading back with them to do some Welsh dates with them. Joining us on the Irish dates will be the awesome Home Star Runner. It's gonna be a LOTTA fun. This is gonna be a real important tour to us so it would be so cool if you guys could spread the word as possible and grab your mates and try to make it out to the shows. All the shows are pay at the door and ALL AGES [14+].
Here are the dates:
25th March - Nerve Centre, Derry UK
26th March - RóisÃn Dubh, Galway IE
27th March - The Bunker, Belfast UK
28th March - The Academy (Spirit 57), Dublin IE
29th March - Tenby Rugby Club, Tenby WALES
30th March - The Jolly Tar, Carmarthen WALES
31st March - Barfly, Cardiff WALES
So yeah, look out for flyers/posters around your area SOON and tell your friends/family/neighbours/pets about the shows and come on down, they're going to be a huge slice o' awesome. AND ... we're really excited to be heading over to Wales, first time and all that so if anyone from over there is reading this come on down and CHECK US OUT!
Secondly we're going to be heading back to the studio for a bit, this time we're recording in a place just outside London called Outhouse Studios. We're extraly [is that a word?] excited about this particular session as it's where bands like Enter Shikari, Fightstar and Funeral For A Friend have recorded. Youmeatsix are going to be doing their album there as well. So, for us, it's going to be a really cool experience ... we can't wait for that! The song's we're going to be doing are BFFL, Forever Endeavour and ... we havent decided a third but we'll keep you posted.
Ok ... *deep breath* I am also pleased to announce that Steer Clear will be flying out to the US of A to SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas in March. This is a really big deal for us and we're all over the moon about it. We're going to be playing the outside stage at Freddie's Place in Austin and we're also pleased to announce [for anybody reading this who is out there or who will be out there] that it will be FREE. So if you are around come on down!
Another exciting thing that's happening at the minute is we're currently booking a UK tour. As it stands we have never played outside Ireland so this is all really cool for us ... we're vibrating with excitment >.<
The two bands we're going to be touring with are Portman and Look! I'm A Ghost. They're two really good bands and we can't wait to hang and play with those guys. The dates are going to be in April just after our recording. So if you're in the UK and wanna see us play keep checking back for dates, they'll be up soon and hopefully you'll be able to come out.
Last but not least, I'm sure you guys have seen the new graphics on the MySpace page and on our tour banner at the top. This is new artwork we've had done and we're currently in the middle of designing a whole new range of merch which will be available for the first time on the The Story So Far/Steer Clear tour. It will also be available via our webstore we're about to launch. Copies of 'No, You Hang Up' will also be available from there aswell. So for people wanting merch ... NOW YOU KNOW!
Anyways, I know that was a lot to digest, sorry! But hopefully we'll see you guys at the shows and keep spreading the word and telling your friends, the support we have got so far has been amazing and thanks so much we appreciate it so much.
Keep being awesome
love,

Steer Clear HotPress Review // Colm O'Hare
1 year ago"Steer Clear's single "Please Be My Girlfriend" an infectious blend of
breakneck riffs, four-to-the-floor-rhythms and a surprisingly melodic
verse and chorus has been picking up impressive air play of late. Which is
just one reason why the future looks bright for the Belfast based five
piece, who've been plying their trade since 2005.
Heavily influenced by the likes of Blink 182, Green Day and their ilk, Steer
Clear have also logged an impressive gigging record in that time. They have
the songs too: "No Regrets" boasts buzzsaw guitars, tricky stop start time
signatures and the kind of heavy riffquotient that underlines their
appeal. Similarly , the nu-metal power pop charms of numbers such as "Sick
To Death", "Distractions", and "Biting Your Lip" showcase a tight, rhythm
section, some impressive fretwork and commanding vocals. It's not all as
franticallypaced as the aforementioned: with impressively wrought vocals
and a discernible piano emerging from the mix of guitars, "It's Over Now" is
almost pastoral in comparison. "Comebacks Aren't Your Thing" also starts
out on a deceptively soft note before building into a powerful thing indeed.
Meanwhile it's back to the barricades for the closing title track, nicely
rounding off an impressive debut which is recorded and produced with
dynamics a plenty by Neal Calderwood at Manor Park in NI.
p0d & Sib's Blastspace Diary #2
1 year agoHEYYY Sib here ... a lot has happened since our previous entry. Our single 'Please Be My Girlfriend Again' was released in record shops all over Ireland and we've been recieving some real positive feedback. Also if anyone reading this wants to pick up a copy and lives in Ireland they're available at all good HMVs, Virgins, Goldendiscs and Tower Records. You can also download it digitally off iTunes :) ROCKING!
So, anyways along with releasing a single takes a lot of work, so [AGAIN!] p0d and I found ourselves running around Dublin flyering people and talking to people etc. There were more blueberry muffins and more smoothies, but this time for a reason as we actually got quite a lot done and the single has been selling well so we're all stoked. Album out on Friday 11th by the way as well, and the same applies for it as the single with regards to where you can get copies from.
PLUS, lest we not forget the Blast:beat National Finals were held in Vicar St. on Sunday. That was amazing. But a few hours before the show we realised that we hadnt got the CD with our show intro on it. So Pete [from Emily] had to drive us out so once we got that sorted things were pretty much plain sailing apart from p0d forgetting his strap, tuner, leads AND plectrum. Luckily a very nice guy named Aaron helped us out with the plectrum problem and Emily obliged with the rest. So we went on and had a Blast [ba-dum-che] ... no but we had a really good time and the crowd were class. Thanks to everyone for sticking around to see us :)
So ... anyways that's what happened this week. Try to get out to all good stores and pick up a single and album that would help out a lot :)
Oh, and the Blastspace band of the week as reccomended by Steer Clear are, of course, the Blast:beat National Final Winners: Hotstop. Check them out @ www.blastspace.com/HotStopp ... Congrats lads!
peace,
-Sib&p0d
