Review of our Battle of the Bands!!

Our first act to perform was James McDonald, a solo acoustic singer/songwriter from Portarlington. He played a diverse set including his version of Jonny Cash's classic 'Folsom Prison Blues', and got a great reaction from the crowd.

Next to perform were Tyfus, a five piece metalcore band from Tullamore. They really got the crowd going and started a massive wall of death!! Their heavy set included 'This Is Demented' and 'Blast'.

The third act of the night was Toxic Priests from Kildare Town, who performed to their usual hard to beat standard. Josh Whealan excellent on drums and Dave Nolan was on form with great vocals as always.

Next up were Weeping Silver, a four piece metal band hailing from our own Monasterevin. They got an UNBELIEVEABLE reaction from the crowd, performing 'I'll Pay You On Wednesday', 'Bleed The Skies' and 'Can You Control Us'. Drummer Malu Moran was on fine form as was Gav Kelly on guitar and Ryan Murphy was, as usual, excellent on guitar.

Sinistratum (now known as Ivy Blue) from Newbridge played a great set including quirky song 'I Like Pancakes'.

The final act of the Night was Loisiana Francis from Rathangan with members Gary O Rourke and Tristan Carroll on guitar and vocals, Conor Doyle on bass and Stephen Lynch on drums. Their set included 'Replacement' and 'Delicates'. Their set went down a treat with the crowd.

At the end of the night Louisiana Francis were crowned our winners as the judges liked their originality and way with the crowd. We at Slippy Scope Records look forward to promoting them in the coming stages of the competition. We would also like to thank everyone involved :

monthly blog - December

hey, this month we had our battle of the bands gig. It went really well!!! The two weeks coming up to the gig were absolutly hectic, between stuff not arriving in time and a band threatening to pull out and not eing able to find somewhere to order what we needed we dealt with everything!!! In the time we usually use for our meetings, we really jus spent the time trying to get everythiong organised so it was really informal. We tried to get an online TV station (KYTV) to come out aand film out event and then show it on their station but when we rang them we found out that it was a little out of our price bracket. It was EUR500 per MINUTE + VAT (that works out at close to EUR90,000 for an hour and a half!!!!!) Anyway, the art+design team worked on the backdrop for two days solid before the gig and it turned out brilliant!! on the day of the battle of the bands we went over to the hall and got everythng set up. We came back that evening and let the bands in for a sound check and made sure that everything was right. One of our judges couldnt find where the venue was so that didnt help things!!! During the night we had no major problems other that one fight that was sorted out ASAP!! Louisianna Francis won and we'll be promoting them in the Regional Finals. The week after the gig we didnt really do much cos we had to organise a school show at the end of the week and one of our friends was leaving for the seychelles so none of us were in the mood to do work!!! We will have another blog every month that something interesting happens so untill then see ya's!!!

Our Monthly blog for November

This month, we had two weeks work experience, so that was two weeks without a formal meeting. However, on the metings we did have, we decided on a lot of very important isues. We decided that tickets will cost EUR8 if you buy them before the night and EUR10 if you buy them on the night, at the door. The person who organised the event hall reported that it will hold 250 people so that we should be aiming to sell in the region of 200 tickets. We discussed who, if anyone, should be entitled to a free ticket. It was decided that only journalists and a few select special guests will be allowed free entry. We discussed how many members of security would be required for the night and weather or not people should be allowed out and back in again. Tasks were delegated to people to do during the month. They were to use blastspace to promote tickets and the show, to make a business plan, a PR plan and to write a monthly blog. It was been reported at a later meeting that the PR plan was complete and that the business plan was nearly complete and that it would be complete for the end of the month. Blastspace has been used to promote tickets and the show successfully as we have recieved online requests for tickets. It was said that posters and fliers should be made. Everyone agreed on this and the Art and Design team were asked to start working on them. Fliers have also been ordered from blastbeat. Tickets have been ordered from blastbeat also and we are awaiting on them to arrive. Once they arrive our sales plan will kick into action and sales will begin immidiatley. It was decided that we want to get t-shirts with our logo on it for the night. We all dissagreed on the colour and type of t-shirts we should use so it went to a vote. It was decided that they would be red v-neck tshirts and that our logo would be small and placed in the corner of the jacket where most crests go. We decided that the best type of video to do would be a mock-umentary as that would be a challange to make and it would be the option that allowed us to be the most creative. Someone from the event team was asked to call Coca Cola to see if they would be intersted in supplying drink to our concert at cost price on a sale or return basis in return for more publicity on the noght and a guarantee that no rival brands will be avialable for purchase on the night. This has not yet been done and we are awaiting a response on that within the next few days. We learned that insurance is not included in our venue price. Insurance is being aranged by team in the coming week. The Art and Design team also reported back that they are working on the backdrop for the night. Judges for the night have been organised. Thy will be a blastbeat representitive, a local musician and someone from the Kildare Nationalist Newspaper.

Hi, i'm Ciaran Hogbin, I am joint ceo and sales and marketing manager. over the last few months i have done up a sales and marketing statagy and completed a survey. i have over saw the opening of our company bank account. i have worked hard to keep order in our company activities. i have also kept all our team well motivated (ye right)........ its been hard but im up 4 the challange!!!!!!!

>27-10-2007 HSR Album Launch Gig Review

This was such a good gig-one of the most memorable I've been to. I attended the all ages gig. The crowd wasn't huge-about 150 I'd say, but the atmoshpere was amazing.

The first band to play were Ham Sandwhich. I thought they played a lightly entertaining set. The bands that really impressed me however were Emily, Steer Clear and Home Star Runner.

It was so sad when Emily played their set, knowing it was their last performance. One thing I'm certain of, they made it a last performance to remember, what with needing to borrow a guitar half-way through the set! They got an amazing reaction from the crowd the whole way through, especially when they played 'Dear Temptation'. All the fans signed a homemade card and gave it to the band and also a customised t-shirt. Emily will certainly be missed.

Steer Clear played an equally good set. Just some of the songs played were 'Comebacks Aren't Your Thing' and 'No Regrets'. Not only are Steer Clear amazing artist but also really friendly (as were Emily and HSR), Pod was happy to talk to fans and take pictures, as were the rest of the guys.

Home Star Runner really did put on an exceptional show, they really deserve the chance to go far and for their debut album ('Kill The Messenger')to do well. I got a great sense of energy from them onstage. They are such a nice bunch of lads, Steve and Bob are so friendly and were happy to sign my album, I didn't manage to corner the rest of them!! I loved the song 'Machines' which is the first song on their debut album. HSR are the ones to watch!

I really enjoyed the wholoe gig, it was great. Im so sad about Emily braking up, they were such talented musicians. I'm sure the over 18's show was just as good. =]

>>We got together in May 2007

>What are BBP's influences?
>>Well, Declan and Micko are more into old school. Dan is into the punk rock scene and Ryan prefers metal. All our influences together equal Beat Box Police.

>Who would you consider to be our idol's?
>>Ryan: Victor Wooten, definetly
Dan: Jimmy Page,
Micko: Keith Moon
Declan: Jim Morisson, Robert Plant and ACDC.

>How often do you practice?
>>Every night in Mickos shed.

>What do you think was your best gig?
>>Cidona Youth Festival in Tullamore. There was about 200 people there. We played a mix of covers and originals and our more well known songs. We played "Woman" by Wolfmother and that got the best reaction.

>And what was your worst gig?
>>We did a battle of the bands in Dublin. It was so bad, there was about five people there and they were supporting another band!

>Past gigs we might remember you from?
>>We played alot of Battle of the Bands gigs in Portarlington this summer. Probably like 16-17 year olds who were more into the music scene would remember us.

>Whats the funniest thing that happened to you on stage.
>>Declan: One time my mic stopped working in the middle of a song so I started beating it off the ground. Then the sound guy started telling me to stop, so I gave him the finger and took Ryans mic.

>And the most embarrasing?
>>Ryan: Nearly falling off the stage at every show, and when I hit the lead singer in the head with my bass.

Finance Monthly Summary

This month I set up a bank a/c in the company name with three other people. This will be used to hold all the companys money and lodgements will be made whenever there is money to go into it. I also did the company accounts. These are to keep track of all money going in and out of the company. I sold shares to members of the company and to teachers. This is to raise capital. Shareholders will be given a 35% share any any profits that the company generates.

Monthly Mini Company Blog

This is the Monthly Blog for our Mini Company (MICO). It will be updated at least once every month but maybe more if something signifigent happens.

This month was spent doing a lot of preperation work for the battle of the bands and the next two months worth of things to do for the business.

The main things that we decided on this month were:

1. The Misson Statement was wrote and agreed on and then given to the IT team to upload to the profile
2. Everyone was told to join blastspace and to become a friend of the company profile. the were also asked to get as many of their friends to join as possible
3. Places we could advertise were discussed
4. We decided on a fundraising Rag Day to be held on the 26th OCT. Prize for best dressed student (in fancy dress) on �20
5. We decided what type of venues should be rang and somebody was given the task of phoning all of them. After trying everywhere we could think of, Rathangan Hall was decided as the most suitable place taking everything (distance, facilities, price) into consideration .
6. We decided to sell shares to raise capital for the business. A price of �5/share was decided and they are top be sold by the Finance Manager.
7. We decided on a selling price for the CD's that we were given by Blastspace. The decided price was �10/cd and people have started selling them.
8. All managers who have an input to the business plan were told to start preparing their contribution so that it can be handed up ASAP
9. The PR Manager was told to do the PR Plan so that that can be handed up ASAP also.

This month, I designed a logo for the slippy scope page. It looks like a guitar with our company name (Slippy Scope Records) and designs all around it. I gave it to the IT team and they will upload ot on to the company MMC Page.

Album Review : Trivium - The Crusade

This is Triviums latest album, the Crusade. Its a really contraversial album in the sense that its totally different for Trivium. This is why so many of the fans who loved 'Ember to Inferno' and 'Ascendry' have gone off Trivium. Many people said that Trivium were just ripping off 'Pantera' and 'Metallica' and the saying 'new dogs playing old tricks' comes to mind. If this is true though, i think you'll find that its new dogs playing old tricks very well.

This album was produced by Trivium along with Jason Sue Coff. There are 13 tracks on the album. The first song released off it was 'anthem (we are the fine)', Corey and Matt supplying us with their usual mind blowing solos. The songs that I though really stuck out were 'And Sadness Will Sear' and 'Tread the Floods'. 'And Sadness Will Sear' is slow but yet it has a good beat to it and music and lyrics by Heafy. 'Tread the Floods' on the other hand is alot more upbeat and fast with music by Beaulieu and lyrics by Heafy.

The album differs from the other albums also because Matt concentrates more on singing and Corey on roaring.

Overall I really enjoyed this album as it is. Compared to the old stuff I think its just as good. Having seen them perform live in April, I think they have done themselves proud.

I would strongly recommend this album this album to the 'fans' that dismissed it straight away, they dont know what they're missing out on! I think that anyone who likes the rock and metal genres would really like this album too. Out of ten, I would give it a well deserved Eight.
