Zara Ryan and Orla Byrne- A+R

To carry out our jobs as a+r we had to:

Auditions:

-We researched venues for our auditions to get our 6 bands for our battle of the bands and to find the best value for money. We eventually decided on Temple Bar Music Centre, and we booked it for the 2nd of December.
-We arranged to have posters and flyers with the art manager made with the details of the auditions and a contact number and e-mail address to find out more info and to book a time. We put posters up in different schools around Dublin and flyred town.
-We devised a timetable when bands started to call looking for a slot. We ended up have a full day booked with each band having a 25 minute slot to audition. Altogether we had 13 band auditioning.
-We devised a marking scheme to help choose our winning bands. It was based on each instrument, style, performance, stage presence and weather they wrote their own material.
In the end we chose our 6 bands which were:
-Mark Hogan and Band
-Addicted to Oxygen
-Quadrivia
-Halcyondaze
- San Salvador
-The Wake

Keeping in contact with the bands:

-We firstly informed the all the bands that auditions weather the were chosen as one of our six bands.
-We then kept in contact with the winning bands keeping then posted on upcoming events and gigs.
-After we found out the equipment needed for the battle of the bands, we contacted the bands and informed them on what they need to bring. We also told them when to arrive at radio city for sound checks etc.

Preparing for the gig:

-We found out the details of radio city e.g. the back line equipment, sound engineers, times etc.
-We then arranged a timetable when the bands would play and how long they would have to play, that suited all our bands taking into account, left handed drummers and travelling arrangements.
-We meet the bands there in advance for their sound checks.

Recording:

-We contacted our winning band Addicted to Oxygen about recording for the Coca Cola Blast:Beat V album, but unfortunately they decided against recording.

Keeping in contact with the winning bands:

-We’ve been keeping in contact with the winning band Addicted to Oxygen and the wildcard winner Mark Hogan and Band.
-We informed them on the dates of the regional finals, qualifiers and the national finals and any other events that we have been involved in.

Looking back:
-We would have provisionally checked the equipment in temple bar music centre as the equiptmed was not up to standards.
-We would have booked an extra date for auditions as some of the bands ran out of time before they were finished their set.
-We would have liked to record for the Coca Cola Blast:Beat V album, but unfortunately we couldn’t.

Two Greenerside Music bands go through to Final!

The talent that graced the stage in Radio City on the 14th and 15th of April was overwhelming, our first band, Addicted to Oxygen, who are a trio from St. Mary's in Rathmines began the gig with a bang and were a wonderful start to what was a mad bangin kickass concert of awesomeness! Us Greenerside chicks weren't the only one's who thought so either, the Judges obviously agreed with us because Addicted to Oxygen got selected as a wildcard to play at the Blastbeat National Wildcard Final in Vicar Street at 1pm on the 6th of May, if when they win, they will go on to compete with the other bands (including our very own Mark Hogan) in the National Final at 7pm.

Marcus o Laoire, guitar, vocals and awful tennis player (though he does have a powerful serve!) with Addicted to Oxygen said "the competition is tough, but we've practiced hard and i think we definitely have a good chance at top spot in Vicar Street"

We think so too and would like to wish them the Best of luck!

On the 15th there was another gig, the Wildcards from each mini-Company's Battle of the Bands battled it out through music, like a sort of dance-off but with songs, to claim a place in the National Finals at Vicar Street. Again the competition was fierce, but Mark Hogan and his band managed to shine through all other bands to emerge as the winners of the wildcard regional finals, in dance-off terms I believe they call it "serving" the other bands.
