The Dynamicks

We are a six piece indie/ska band from Dublin! We play a tasty blend of ska and indie (SKINDIE) and we have won a few battles of the bands to date.

We were born out of the sheer desire to experience the ultimate buzz which of course is playing music to people who enjoy it and have fun watching and dancing to us!

The Original interest in music began when in one boring art class in 04 ronan(bass) and joe(guitar) decided to create a band. they drafted in james jordan on guitar and dave on drums and became the inbreads they played a school gig that year which consisted of two really bad originals and a cover of a long way to the top by ac\dc. In the audience were oisin and cian who were inspired to get off teir asses and make a band too.

The band began in Cian (the drummer's) bed room in July '05. When he received a really shitty old starter kit as an end of exam present. That very same day Cian went with Oisin (the soon to be guitarist) to town to buy a guitar and small amp! They two jammed for many weeks slowly getting better and then began recruiting other members and went through a few until finalling settling with Donal Ahern and Ronan Downing (who had ... ahem ... ''left'' the inbreads and was now the bassist for the dynamicks). They practiced like mad for the first school gig which went better than expected! Then they brought in Jomi to play keyboard for a few songs! but he was not yet full time. Also playing at that first school gig was the now well experienced Inbreads who featured the energetic furious joe on guitar and vocals.

Then just after their second school gig Donal left to continue his own career with his band Left Foot lucy who are making good head way in the indie scene! He is still an extremely close friend of the band! This left the band with a conundrum which was quickly solved by Furious Joe Carroll's band the Inbreads breaking up due to musical differences between Joe and James. He was quickly snapped up by the Dynamicks!

The band then set about writing their own music and with Joes blend of crazy riffs, Oisins mellow side, Ronans funky bass riffs and Cian's tongue and cheek lyrics they had the basis of some very catchy tunes mostly based on their own experiences!

They then brought Jomi back into the picture to play keyboard and sax. Jomi being up there with some of the best all round musicians of his age playing sax and keys and many others. He was a great asset to the band and added something new to the standard 4 piece indie sound.

Kim was then recruited towards in August 06, her stunning voice could no longer go un noticed by the band! She gave the 6 piece band the final piece of puzzle needed to get the sound they wanted! But their sound was still to standard they need a flavour coming from somewhere!

Their first gig together was in October 06 in a GAA club and came narrowly in second place to the brilliant Addicted to Oxygen who since then have been come great friends of the band!

The band decided they needed guidance from a rock and all round legend! Sean Carroll fitted the descripton perfectly! and poured his effort time and money in to getting the Dynamicks to where they are now! Without that one brilliant musical genius the band would be nothing! Thanks Sean!

In January 07 during a normal practise of open for business just out of boredom joe started playing choppy reggae/ska type rhythm to the chords of the song and thought he was on to something. he went home and listened to Bob Marley and the blizzards for ages and the next morning he went down to his shed and went about writing a song he played some chords and hummed a melody. Then got some Lyrics that cian had wrote months before entitled 'Sex At A Free Gaff' and had never been arsed to use and just sung them with the song and he soon realised it was quite good.

He Then Brought the song to band practise and the reat of the band also thought it was quite good. Joe was tired of soloing in evry song at the time (but he's not anymore thank christ) and he just told oisin to take a solo. And thats when it happened....... Oisin just like a the genius he is played the infamous 'Do do dodo dodo' riff which we are now famous for and he just said 'Thats it! Thats It!' the jomi whipped out the sax and we sang along with the guitar and thats when we stopped being a group of kids playing music together and became a band and thats when skindie was born.

From then on defeat was not something the band got use to! Winning another battle of the bands in Ballyboden beating 8 bands to the cash prise!
The next gig was then Radio City in January 07 in the first Blastbeat qualifier. To their great suprise they won and were filled with confidence. They now got to work on their set for their Regional Final in April. The decided to go with their 3 Favourites Duck and Cover, Sex at a free gaff (the youth anthem) and Girl Get some class! This non stop practicing served them well and they won their regional which sent them to the National Final in Vicar Street on the 6th of may! Practicing was relentless but unfortunately they did not win.

Deeply disappointed but not hopeless they've returned to the writing scene and now they have their Chaos in the Neighbourhood album writen and will start recording in August! Look out for this album when its released it will be an enjoyable rollercoaster ride of dublin life taking the piss out of all things stupid and D4!

The Line up Of the Band is as follows.
