Hey there! we're a 4-piece alternative/punk rock band from Fountainstown, Myrtleville, Carrigaline and Nohoval (respectively) in Cork.
Hope you like the music!!
It all started in early 2005, a few months after Aidan and Ruairí first picked up their guitars. To get a band together, they recruited their good friends David O'Keefe on drums, Joe Cronin on 3rd guitar and Daniel Casey to sing for them. Young and naive as to how bands and the local scene worked, they played 2 charity gigs in their school in Crosshaven, playing Shes Electric by Oasis and Under The Bridge by RHCP.
The next year and a half was a barren spell for the band. Aidan left and focused more on improving at playing the guitar. The rest of the lads jammed, but no more gigs were played, and original material was never focused on.
In 2006, Aidan rejoined the band, with original songs Ernst, When, Funky Boxmore and Broken Shell. At this point it was mostly Aidan and Ruairí jamming guitars. By the end of the year Joe, Dave and Dan had all been let go, not being as committed to the band and to music.
For the next year, Aidan and Ruairí wrote many more songs, but still needed the rest of a band!
In mid 2007, during a dour Irish clalss, they asked their friend Shane Desmond to come in on bass. He duly accepted, Aidan and Ruairí decided to both take on vocal duties, and the band was almost complete.
For the next part, more songs were written (too many), notably Dr. Quirkys Good Time Emporium Will Make You Sick, but one thing was missing: a drummer.
Ex-guitarist/bassist/multi -instrumentalist Joe filled in for a while, but this never materialised. Looking as far as the internet could see, finally, in late February 2008, thanks to a friend of the band, Siobhán Hughes, Eoghan O'Loughlin was recruited on drums.
The band was now complete, and 3 practise sessions and a few weeks later they played their first gig in Mallow (they almost didn't, but that story is for another day), as part of the blastbeat competition. While missing out on the winning spot (won by fantastic Overplay), they duly enjoyed it and made good friends in Rock The Rubicon.
Since then they have played a gig in the Triskel supporting Rock The Rubicon and in Skibbereen Town Hall, both of which were so much fun!
Now, i'm sick of writing "us" and "we" as "they", so i'm going to say that now that our leaving cert is almost over (Ruairí, Shane and I, Aidan, are currently enduring the misery), we are looking forward to summer of jamming, writing, recording and gigging as much as we can :-)
Thanks a lot for reading, i apologise if you got bored to death haha, and thanks for checking out the page!
Aidan

The Rising Festival 2009: vote us in please!!!
1 month agohey there, The Rising Festival is a big festival for unsigned bands taking place next year, with a main stage and secondary stages and all, and we hope to play a slot at it, but can only do so with your help!
Bands are selected to play based on a vote, and we're up against a lot of good bands, so every vote would be hugely appreciated!
To vote, send an e-mail only saying the words "This Dark Room" and nothing else to vote4band2009@hotmail.com
if you could take a minute to do so it would be fantastic:)
Thanks!
Aidan
