Film Review - What Happens In Vegas

All the goofy, mismatched romcom pairings that Hollywood has willed to work over the last few years may now be forgiven as Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher unite to form what seems like a natural comedy dreamteam.

Joy (Diaz) and Jack (Kutcher) both arrive in Vegas in a rather fragile state - she newly boyfriendless, he freshly jobless - and proceed first to get royally drunk, and second to get married, unintentionally.

When Jack then wins big on the slot machines (using money lent to him by Joy) the two of them separately embark on a sequence of cunning plans and contortions in an effort to lay individual claim to the loot.

Not altogether shockingly, this whole fandango leads them circuitously into one another's arms. It's froth, of course - pure sugar-whipped confection - but the plot has an appealing simplicity, Vegas is suitably bonkers, and Diaz and Kutcher really do bring a certain zing to the screen.

Film Review - In Bruges

Two Irish hitmen are lying low in Bruges, Belgium, after the less-than-successful results of Ray's (Colin Farrell) first assignment. Ken (Brendan Gleason), the more experienced assassin, must keep his exuberant charge sane and calm in a town that Ray describes as, "If I grew up on a farm and was retarded, Bruges might impress me."

Complications arise when a call comes through from disgruntled boss, Harry (Ralph Fiennes), that will fundamentally change their lives.

A study of fish-out-of-water, or maybe Irishmen-out-of-Guinness, this comedic and profane tale of not-so-cold-blooded killers seems to be the fusion of two movies, a very funny buddy comedy and a ruthless gangster thriller. In fact, one is disappointed when the serious stuff kicks in, because we know horrible things will transpire.

Aside from the idyllic Bruges scenery, a parade of esoteric characters interacts with our boys. Jordan Prentice is part of a movie crew making a surreal dream sequence and his lack of stature draws the attention of Ray who then makes the acquaintance of crew member, Chloe (Clemence Poesy).

Also deposited in this very Irish stew are a number of American tourists, Chloe's bitter ex-boyfriend, a church custodian with no sense of humour, a weapons supplier with a penchant for alcoves and the odd prostitute.

The core of the movie is the relationship between the two men, beautifully realized by Gleeson and Farrell, with dead-on dialogue from writer/director Martin McDonagh that is funny and offensive at the same time. A three week rehearsal period obviously paid off for the onscreen chemistry and one hopes that another project might be found for them.

The film is delightfully free of the frenetic camera work and digital colour enhancement that is annoyingly in vogue at the moment and will be embraced by fans of Snatch and Sexy Beast as a worthy addition to the genre.

Just giving you a wee update on what we have been getting up to in the last month.
- Created the BlastSpace profile
- Uploaded photos of the members
- Organised a gig at Laverys Bunker
- Uploaded the photos and videos from the gig
- Added friends on BlastSpace
- Made videos of rehearsals + the team at work
- Made the business, PR and financial reports
- Done some PR based work
- Had brainstorming meetings
- Competed in the Limelight for an all expenses trip to the finals
- Divised a cunning Competition to find Wally

Had a blast with all of this!! Has been great fun working along side BlastSpace in making the young music a scene ever more appealing to everyone.

Just looked at the amount of friends we have to find its creeping up on 500! We only started adding people a few days ago :D

Just shows that hard work, a team of 8 people adding everyone and a pizza can do for the friends list.

Getting The Act Together

From adding everyone on blastspace, to upload new logos, and posting new blogs, Joker Records are on there way to the top.

Charity - Get Involved

Hey, Frankie here, Just wanted to give you a bit of information about the charity we are donating to with the money we raise from the Blast Beat gigs.

The main reason we choose this Charity is because it is one based in our school, and one we take great pride in donating to, as we do every year, taking part in any charity events we can to raise money for it.

It is "The De La Salle College Ethiopian Fund".

This funding is used to build homes for those who require homes, food, cloths, water facilities, schooling and school builings.

Every year a handful of teachers, upper students and past pupils raise money to go away to Ethiopia to work and build schools and homes for the children otherwise living in the streets.

Some of the Joker Records team, in the future, intend to take part in this experience, so we take great pride in giving back something to the school for supporting us the whole way threw the Blastbeat competition.

The finals - results

Heyyyy again!!! Well today went really well, was alot of stress mixed with alot fun.

Just wanted to say congradulations to Saturn Records who won best MMC award.

Also congrats to the winning bands from today. Very tough competition, but everyone played very well.

All in all it was a very good day. We will now be preparing for the all Ireland MMC finals, were Joker Records will be competing with all the other companys for £4000.

While one of the members was reading threw "The Andersonstown News" we discovered a section "Features", were the upcoming band "Illicit" had there first full page spread! The boys were tops of the Features section, which intailed a lenghtly low-down on the boys. The headline "It's the final countdown" a fitting one for this weekends contest, as Illicit battle it out for there place in the All Ireland finals.

The Laverys Gig!!!

Its went amazing! We had an amzing turnout, no figures at the moment, but If you were there, you will know it was alot!!! Thanks to everyone who came, the judges, the bands, and all the Joker staff for all the input. The winners were "Illicit" and "The Audiables". Congradulations to both bands, who will now be competing in the Limelight, This saturday!! From around 1pm!!!
