So we didn't win but i clearly could tell we weren't going to win from the begining. What i don't get is that our band The Mighty Handful lost to some solo artist that i don't even remember her name. It was not fair and I can't get that out of my head but it's time to move on and plan something new for next year. I want to thank Black Sheep Records for being there for us and having our back. with out them we would have lost faith. I also want to thank Ms. Vaccaro and of course The Mighty Handful we all love you and in our hearts you will always be winners and always remember that(keep on rockin guys!!!).Goodbye...

So tomorrow is the big day...I'am scared.
Everyone should(Have to)come to the show tomorrow and support Insomniac Records and our band
The Mighty Handful. It's going to be a long day but i know its going to be fun as well. I just hope we win and get to go to Ireland(I love ireland) especially our band They really deserve to go. They're going to rock the judges sox off and of course the crowd(That's how much they ROCK!!!) Well that's about it for today. The Mighty Handful interview is going to be up soon. We seem to be having problems uploading it to BlastSpace That is all. Also we have a new member in Insomniac Records - Nicole Adames she has been very helpful and she worked on the posterboard with me to present it to the judges(she's cool)

So we finally did the interview with our winnig band. It should be up soon. The interview is not so professional since we didn't have a proper video camera for the interview, but hey we tried. It is not a long interview since someone just stopped filming for about a good 3 minutes(I don't know why) but we filmed good and important parts.

Blast ROcks Midtown!!!!!

As of now, I'm trying to get Blast ROcks Midtown to play at the finals in the Knitting Factory as a guest band. They were one of the band competing in the Battle of the Bands on May 4. Blast Rocks Midtown was an extraordinarily good group of guys that had an amazing sound and it would be very unfortuante to let them down. First I have to contact Azriel to see if it's possible, (Wish me luck).

The Mighty handful. Also we want to thank the other bands that performed Five Cases of a Tragedy(Cool Band), Chocolateboy(Awesome),
Blast Rocks Midtown(LOVE THEM), and HUGO(Amazing), and last but not least Nadia Bourne. And of course we especially need to thank Black Sheep Records for helping the shit out of us when we needed them and for taking their time every monday to keep us on track and for supporting us(YOU GUYS ROCK!!!) The show went well thats all we have to say. We are ready for the show on May 25th (Bring it on).

Album Review- Def leppard-Hysteria

Def Leppard a band formed in Sheffield, England in 1977. Def Leppard is known as a British heavy metal, glam Metal. The band is made up of Joe Elliot (lead vocals), Steve Clark (Guitarist), Phil Collen(guitarist), Rick Savage(Bass), and Rick Allen(Drummer). This album was set back three years due to problems like Rick Allen Def Leppard’s drummer losing his left arm in a car accident, and production problems like not having a right producer to do the album. Their album before Hysteria was a big hit in the U.S going to #2 behind Michael Jackson’s album Thriller. Although they were big in the U.S back in their home town in the U.K they didn’t do well. With this album with hits like “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” “Animal,” “Hysteria,” and their only single from the album that went to #1 “Love Bites” there is no doubt why this went to #1. The album has a mixture of Elements like Heavy metal, power ballads, and popish melodies, raw and riveting tunes that everyone should be able to enjoy. The album came out in August 3, 1987 and finally making it in the U.K charts.

Today in our meeting we meet in a library because we are in a break(Spring Break yay!!!) so we discussed about one of our members about if she wanted to be in Insomniac Records she said no. So we lost a member of Insomniac Records. After the discussion we sold tickets(well trying to sale tickets is a better way of puting it) I only sold two tickets =(. Am not sure about the rest of the guys i lost them when i was trying to sell the tickets(where did they go?) Well i hope they sold something... Oh and we are going to have another bake sale on tuesday. YAY!!! *SWEETS*

ALBUM REVIEW: Vampire Weekend

I absolutly love this new CD by Vampire Weekend sometime when I hear the root of the song I feel like I'm listening to one of my dad's old West African music. The first track is the lead single, Mansard Roof (google it). A track as studious as it sounds, with tight changes, nice lyrics, and crisp melodies, a perfect pop moment that would make fans of Belle and Sebastian squeal into their book bags. The band then up the ante with Oxford Comma, again, just as collegiate friendly, but with a little more bite to it. In it they even manage to drop a well-pronounced F-bomb and make it sound like the Queen's English. The overall result is my favorite track off the disc. The song A Punk (months already on itunes) continues the impressive string of songs at three now, A Punk carries a bit more Strokes flavor to it in its brevity and faster pacing, but its pace doesn't seem foreign at all. M79 brings in a harpsichord sounding synth as its calling card and does so without becoming annoying. Campus is another Stroke styled stroke, right down to the melancholy and wishful tone of the lyrics.

If anything, the afro-pop, New England fashion sense (docksiders), and even the reggae, pump up the irony of this very collegiate group of boys and their appeal to fans of all types of music, especially indie music.

You would of course need flash which unfortunately we are blocked from downloading in school so....anyways its up and its in two parts because of the 5 minute time limit. Watch out for bloopers of the interview in a later video, it'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry, and it'll probably be deleted by Insomniacs a few days after its up lol

The SHOW

So, we have finally scheduled a date and venue ofor our show! It will be taking place at our school Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis H.S., which is located right in the heart of Times Square. Why did we go through all the trouble of trying to find a venue in the first place? you might ask, weel, our school auditorium has been under renovation for quite some time now, but we just got owrd from our principal that by May 4th, the renovations will be done, hence our decision to have it at our school. We are continuing to raise money and have ALOT of ideas for the show that should definitley get the Insomniac records name known and to become a force to be reckoned with in this competetion. We are still finalizing the lineup, things have changed around a bit recently, but we'll be fine. We have another band coming in tomorrow, so we'll be chatting it up with them. We are still editing the video of the other interview we did with the band Duhan Faun, so be looking out for that video as well. We will continue to keep you up to date on all the other happenings at the Insomniacs headquaters. Signing off!

We have come across a minor set back - one of our bands, Knochout Theory, has dropped out of the race due to "prior family engagements". No sweat though, even though they were really good and one of the favorites to win, we have backup. We were actually over booked and had more bands than we really needed, so this way, Knockout Theory can leave the slot open for another band who was going to be on the chooping block otherwise. Everything works out eventually, maybe they werent meant to be in the show. Maybe this is a sign that there are bigger & better bands out there that are just clawing for a chance to be part of this. I'll let you all know when we find that out.

So today we had a meeting about finalizing our date and where are we going to have the Battle Of The Bands. We know our date its going to be on May 4.Some poeple couldn't make it to the meeting so we couldn't really talk about where the show is going to be. I'm pretty sure its going to be in our school. We talked about good ways to sell stuff at the Battle Of The Bands to make money like haivng a raffle for a gift card to starbucks,we have to promote Insomniacs(Get It), we also have other stuff like Buttons/pin to handout or sell(I don't remember). We also made a "Tentative Lineup" for the Bands that are going to perform. There is Stereo Skyline,Knock Out Theory, Less Than Normal, Millennium Children,Blast Rocks Midtown, and last but not least She's cool and she's from our school Nadia.We are also going to have guest Bands like 5 COAT, and Hugo. WOW. We have found a TON of really cool and talented bands who are literally (not really) clawing for a spot in the Insomniac Records battle of the bands. I was told that the date and the venue are set, but I wasnt told exactly what date. The Venue is Cornelia Street cafe on West 4th street. I will get back on the specifics and the final location, time and date by tomorrow. *bites nails* Signing off!

Duhan Faun

Today was a very interesting day to say the least. We had 2 members from one of the bands that will be performing at our show,Duhan Faun,come and visit us for an interview. They were really cool and really funny. We got to learn the origin of their cooky band name - it's a very interesting, yet cruel, yet deathly hilarious story. We recorded the whole interview and will be posting the video up ASAP! Good news concerning the venues as well. We have 2 venues in mind, they are cheap and accessible. We basically have one booked - its a cafe around west 4th street. A few of us are heading over there tomorrow to finalize things. We have enough money for the down payment and are now just preparing to seal our line up and promote the show - which we are planning on having the first week of May. I'll keep you all updated on how the talk with the people from the venue went, otherwise, be looking out for the Duhan Faun interview video and the date for our battle of the bands! Venues, Bands and stuff

Soooooo, we are seeming to be having good luck with the venues as of now. We are keping in contact with about 5 different venues and are now just looking to seal the deal. Hopefully, we can have our show by April 25, or some date around that time. Some venues we are looking at are in the village - we are even talking to Don Hills, which is the same place that Black Sheep Records held their battle of the bands last year. There is this one place in Hunts Point in the Bronx called the Point -I found out about it through this underground music program called FLC, which is a underground community of bands that just go around and perform hardcore and punk shows. We emailed them yesterday, and are now awaiting a response - hopefully they will email back soon - i think this might possibly be our venue!

ALBUM REVIEW: U2-The Joshua Tree

The Joshua tree is the greatest album U2 put out. The album was released in March 1987 and went to #1 for nine weeks on the U.S. charts. This album has so much soul, rhythm and, gospel especially in songs like "With or Without You", and "I still haven’t found what am looking for" these songs became big hits in the U.S. The experience and the joy you get from listening to this amazing album also the immense message, and poetry makes you get this feeling of lost, yet you have this feeling of a sanctuary.

Interview with KNOCKOUT THEORY

- How did Knockout Theory form?

Knockout Theory formed in June 2007. We were all in previous bands for a number of years and we were all unhappy with them. We decided to form a "power band" and the rest is history…

- Did you guys always know you wanted to be in a band?

Personally, for as long as I can remember, I wanted to be an entertainer of some kind. After middle school, being a "rock star" was my only goal and today, all of the members in Knockout Theory plan to do music for a living.

- If you weren't in a band, what would you be doing with your spare time?

Hmm, probably doing what we were doing before the band: nothing. Maybe getting into trouble?!

- How would you describe your sound?

Energetic! Melodic! Addicting! - Probably if you took fast punk rock and put it in a blender with melodic hardcore, with a pinch of metal.

- Describe the experience of performing for the first time.

When Mike (our drummer) came to audition for us, it was quite magical. We had given him a few songs from our previous bands to learn and he had told us he learned them all. We were a bit skeptical, but as soon as we started playing the opening riff to one of our songs at practice, it was amazing. Mike played his part near perfect. We decided that day that we were now a band.
Our first live performance was out doors in August. It was extremely hot and from what I remember, we were well-rehearsed and played very good (for a first show anyway).

- What artist would you most want to share the stage with one day?

We all have different favorite bands, but we would love to share the stage with acts such as The Offspring, No Trigger, Strike Anywhere, or A Wilhelm Scream. Those would all be amazing.

- If Knockout Theory could somehow morph into a spandex sporting superhero, what would be your superpower(s)?

Hmm, this is tough. Maybe for me, x-ray vision. It sounds creepy but as a kid I always wondered about that. Maybe a more useful superpower would be HUGE MUSCLES so I could carry all of our equipment at once. Haha or maybe just super jumping power to use on stage. That would be awesome!

- What do you think your band has that will lead you to victory in this competition?

Non-stop stage presence as well as a tight live set.

- What advice do you have for any other young bands out there hoping to make it big one day?

It sounds cliché, but it's true: Don't give up. If people don't like you, who cares. As long as you are happy playing music; that's all that matters. Don't change for anybody and always have fun. What's the point if you're not enjoying yourself?

- Where do you see your band in 10 years?

A super punk rock band, touring the world! It would be nice to be able to make a living by playing music!

- Where do you pull your inspiration for your songs?

It depends. Our lyrics range anywhere from personal experiences, politics, to root beer! We get lots of inspiration from the world around us; it is always easy to find a social issue to write about.

- What motivates you to keep playing?

First off, playing live shows is the best feeling in the world, especially when kids are singing my lyrics back at me. The lyrics I wrote in my bedroom; it's an awesome feeling and even a sense of accomplishment. We are also a dedicated band and are willing to make sacrifices to benefit the band. We are optimistic about our future as a band.

- How do you think this competition will benefit you if you win?

Exposure is key! We want everyone to know who were are! Another benefit would be spreading our message(s) through our music. That's also a plus!

ALBUM REVIEW - FAVOURITE WORST NIGHTMARE

This is the Arctic Monkeys second release after their first album "Whatever People Say I am, Thats What I'm Not". This record rivals thier first album and clearly exhibits the musical and personal growth within the band. This ablum shows the soulful side of the Monkeys and tackles more of a range of topics than that of their freshman release. Tracks like Flourescent Adolescent and Teddy Picker are a new take on the british alternative pop rock sound that the band is known for, while tracks like 405 and Do Me A Favour give a glimpse of the newer matured side of the band - the more musical side, the side which, in my opinion this band needs to show more of. This album is a mix between Oasis and Hard - Fi, with a bit of Lily Allen wit. This is the only band in many years who've I've seen is able to balance harsh realities with popish beats and the the schoolboy image. Though they are a young band, they have rivaled the careers of many; making it big in both the U.S. and the U.K. They are one of the few who dont care so much about the image, but rather about the fact that they want to keep producing music - good music might I add. Though they manage to stay slightly under the MTV radar, I'm pretty sure they will be showing up on television more and more. Their first single off the album, Brianstorm, has blown up on the rock charts. The video is the monkeys themselves performing, mixed in with a few scenes of girls in flappers clothing dancing sporadically to the rapid beat. The Arctic Monkeys are a group of guys who have developed a fan base but have not yet let the fame distort who they are. Whenever you listen to an Arctic Monkeys song remeber, the meaning may not be as obvious as you think.

YO world! We have been picking up the pace with things and everything *jinx* has been going pretty well. We are having amazing luck with finding bands. We even have a band that will be coming to our school monday for an interview - so excited! Currently, our only conflict lies in finding a venue. Our school is not an option because our auditorium is currently undergoing renovation, we've been trying to contact other schools but we really want to have it at an actual venue, although we dont know if that looks like it will be possible because of our lack of currency. Hopefully, we'll have some luck in that area pretty soon as well. We will continue to keep you up to date on everything that is going on here in NYC - next time (hopefully) we'll be posting show dates!

St. Marks

In tuesday, a couple of us went over to the legendary St.Marks place in Greenwich Village to hand out flyers to see if we could find any bands. Despite a few rejections by people who did refused to take our flyers (New Yorkers man, pshh) we were able to leave some of our flyers at a few stores and met some people who seemed to be a bit interested. Overall, though it was cold, we accomplished what we set out to do - get the word out!

Album Review: Dreaming Out Loud One Republic

As an alternative rock band it's not easy to stand out when your one of many, but One Republic has been able to cultivate thier sound into something more. One republic's sound holds a soulful perception. After listening to the entire CD I know there’s much more to them than their song "Apologize" that is relentlessly played over the radio. This band proves to hold more to the music beyond the beats songs like Say(All I need) really bring out the depth of lyrics that is missing from alot of music today. This is not a quick pick CD but one that can be listened too over and over again. Ranked on Myspaces tops from 2006 they deserve high ranking titles. Many of the songs on the album were leaked in advance to the release date, and some songs that can be found online are not on their current cd but can be found on I tunes. Don't despair these songs are worth no less than the ones on the album.

ALBUM REVIEW: KINGS OF LEON-BECAUSE OF THE TIMES

The Kings Of Leon are a Southern/Garage/Indie rock band from Tennessee, United States. They are a rock band made up of three Followill brothers(Caleb,Jared, and Nathan)and one cousin(Matthew). The Kings Of Leon released their album in the U.K in April 2, 2007 and a day later in the US. ” Because Of The Times” entered the charts at #25 in the US and debuting #1 in U.K. With singles like “on call” which became a hit in Britain and there were other singles from the album “fans”, and “charmer”. Some fans could argue and say that this album is very different from their earlier work and this album is slightly disappointing upon the release of the album. But above it this entire album is the band's most successful and commercial release. Unlike the first and second album(Youth and Young ManHood,and Aha Shake heartbreak) this album is more mature and has a more serious meaning behind their songs instead of the fun,and dirty sothern swagger that were on the first two albums.the first two albums are amazing with the singles like "the Bucket","Red Morning Light", but nothing beats a more mature and serious sound to a band. Thus making this the best rock album, and making the Kings Of Leon the best American Rock band of our time.

- Give me some backround on your band - who plays what?

- What's the average age of your band?

The average age of our band is 15

- Who are some of your major musical influences?

Our musical influences range from Velvet Revolver and Guns n' Roses to Led Zepplin and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

- Your band has an older Rock n' Roll feel, what made you choose this particular sound?

The best music is older Rock n' Roll and we want to bring it back with a new twist.

- What are you goals fot his band?

-We would like to get as much exposure as possinle and get our msic heard. Any shows we can play we will, playing music is what we love to do.

- What do you think, currently, is the best was for bands to get their name out there?

The best way to get your name "out there" is to play around; you never know who’s in the crowd listening.

- How hard is it for younger bands, especially in New York City, to book a gig?

It has been hard. We started with our first gig at a small variety show in China Town and as you build up your resume and word of mouth gets around it gets easier to play certain places. A large portion of our gigs were booked on Craig’s list but the most common response back is "Sorry you must be 21 or older to play here". But we are relentless and never give up.

- What inspires you to keep going after being turned down?

We think that the bars and clubs that turn us down are really just missing out. Our inspiration many times comes from trying to prove ourselves places where we can play and build up to larger venues.

- What do you think of New York's underground music scene?

NYC's music scene is so diverse and I feel no matter what kind of music or entertainment you are looking for, you can find it in New York. There are many opportunities for all up and coming people, but always in the great music hub cities there comes competition, but competition is just more inspiration to work harder.

- How do you think the Blast Beat program helps younger acts?

It helps younger acts because it gives great opportunities. Through the battle of the bands and accurate representations of how a band performs people come out on top. There are no predisposed opinions.

- How will Blast Beat help you if you win?

Hopefully we can gain more exposure and get our music heard by a recording company.

So as you know, we are begining to get on the ball with things. We are trying our best to raise money and have a few leads on venues. We are doing pretty well in the bands department - we found a few who seem pretty promising. Thanks to the help from Ms. Vaccaro and her new "connection" that she has made from going to this Grammy networking program thing, we might have some award winning acts in our grasp. We are trying to keep tabs on the website as well, updating it as much as possible. Hopefully, we will have some of our bands on blastspace soon so you can check out some of New Yorks latest raw talent. Until we meet again....

Hey guys! Greetings to all! We are Insomniac Records! So far we have been trying to work as hard as we can,although things seem to be going a bit slow. We are doing our best to raise money for our battle of the bands , but as you may or may not know, New York is veerrrry expensive, especially for a group of kids with no jobs. We have a few venues in mind, we were even thinking of having our show at the same place where Black Sheep Records had theirs. Music wise, we have found a few bands, but nothing solid, hopefully we can get Five Cases of a Tragedy, who competed last year, to come back for another run. We are going to get on the ball and post any new updates that occur. We will be having our show soon so be on the lookout- its going to be amazing. Stay tuned!
