In an industry that increasingly makes or breaks bands on the strength of their PR machine rather than their talent, mike got spiked are a true embodiment of how hard work can still reap great rewards. Formed in late 2002, mike got spiked's incendiary live shows quickly gained them notoriety countrywide. Tanglible success quickly arrived in the form of a successful raid on the charts in July 2004, when debut single All You Need reached number 23 on the back of a mammoth 19 shows in 10 days.

The four-piece cemented their reputation as one of Ireland's finest rock acts with release of their debut album, Caveat Emptor, on Conflict of Interest Records in March 2005. A five-star review of the record in the Irish Examiner speculated that Caveat Emptor could be 'the most original album to emerge from Ireland in a decade', while Rock Sound acclaimed it as 'schizo melody-tinged rock'.

Recorded over three months with American producer Peter Slankster in Dublin, the album was mastered in Los Angeles by legendary engineer Eddy Schreyer, known for his work with luminaries such as Alice in Chains, Korn, System of a Down and At The Drive-In. MGS trekked across Ireland in support of the album, and were rewarded with high-profile support slots with the likes of Anthrax, Biffy Clyro and Kerbdog.

In July 2005, they were invited to play alongside the likes of Thrice, The Offspring and Dillinger Escape Plan as the only Irish representative on the Canadian legs of the prestigious Vans Warped Tour. Here, they topped the bill on the Kevin Says stage, and Caveat Emptor proved very popular with the Canadian punters, climbing to number seven on the Warped Tour's official download chart.

2006 has been a transitional year for MGS, both in musical and geographical senses. Their new EP, Poetry and Prozak, sees them veer in funkier and heavier directions, harnessing the fun and ferocity of their live performances. In June, they left Ireland's limited scene behind and relocated to America, where they've been touring from coast to coast, and everywhere in between, winning thousands of new fans along the way.
