EMILY (April 2005 - October 2007)
8 months agoHowdy Kids,
Unfortunately the bulletin title is true. It is the end. We are all gutted to be honest. Its like the death of one our best friends. Its weird that we have to call it a day because we do still enjoy playing with each other and we are all still great friends. We took it as far as we can but unfortunately the time came to end it.
There are a series of things that went wrong for us and a series of mistakes that we made but at the end of the day, we are stoked how far we got but it has ran its course. The band didnt become our band anymore, what we wanted to do and what others wanted us to do made it not be fun. I think if a band is to "make it" they need to dedicate everything to the goal and basically not be particularily nice guys (and girl). We would prefer to end it here with our credibility and conscience clear rather than be some huge band with dirty hands.
We didn't set up Emily to become the hugest band ever, despite what some people think. We set it up to have fun and have a laugh and whatever happens, happens. The situation that we found ourselves in was that it became a job and a chore. With American/Japanese labels and management companies getting involved it got messy. It was not there fault or anything. It just sort of made us realise what our priorities are. It wasn't about the music anymore, haha, how cheesy We became stressed and it began to affect our relationship with each other. We respect and love each other too much for this to tear us apart. After all, it's only a few chords at the end of the day.
We owe so much to tonnes of people who made this one of the best experiences of our life. Blastspace and Rob for giving us so many opportunities, gigs and exposure, all that Emily achieved would never have been possible without u!! Its more than we ever imagined we could do. Everyone who bought a cd, came to a gig, bought a shirt, sang along or even just sent us a message saying that you appreciate us. We loved every time someone came up to us and basically gave a damn about us. We will definitely look back on this and be like "Fuck yeah, I saw Athlone." It sucks that we wont be able to keep going but we are stringing too many people along. Cheating ourselves and cheating everyone around us. We met some amazing people on our travels and played with some amazing bands. I wish Home Star Runner, Boy Turns Hero, Little Nightmare and The Upgrades (
